Let’s start with the obvious, the age of the battery. Batteries typically last 3-5 years. So if you are significantly over this age and are suspecting it might need replaced you are probably right.
Another obvious telltale sign is if you are frequently needing to jump start the battery. Occasionally something can be left on to drain the battery and you just need a quick jump start to be on your way but if this is a frequent occurrence, it’s likely a sign your battery is on its last leg.
A common missed sign that your battery could be failing is electrical issues. If you notice your windows rolling down more slowly, your radio flickering, power doors and locks shutting down are all signs your battery might be at the end of its life.
It’s also a good idea to start with inspecting the battery. Things like corroded terminals, bulging battery case and strange smells can be an indicator that you need to be replace your battery.
Lastly, you might have a light on your dash notifying you as well. There might be a battery light illuminated or you might even see a check engine light!
Even with some of these signs it’s not always cut and dry so if you see one or a few of them you can always have your battery tested for free at most auto parts stores or with us at Gone Fishing Garage.
